having trouble with new forum

not user-friendly.. The link to the guide leads to a blank page. When I tried to use the search feature it would not work. There seem to be very few posts now and I am only able to view a small number.

Try this link

http://www.hcbc.ca/HCBC-News.html?
Then click on the news item about the new forums.

You are able to view all postings, there are not a lot yet but users are starting to post.

I am also pasting the "how to" for the new forums below:
Horse Council BC is pleased to announce that our new and improved Forums are now active.

Anyone who is able to successfully log in to the membership system to renew their membership, change their contact information or access online courses will log in the exact same way to access the new forums.

For people who have never had a Horse Council membership, you will need to create an account. To do this, go to www.hcbc.ca, click on ‘LOGIN’ at the top of the page and click on ‘Sign Up.’

If you have a current or past membership and you have never logged into our system you may need to use the password reset feature or contact our office at 1-800-345-8055 or email [email protected] to reset your password for you.

Once you are logged in, the following steps will guide you through accessing and using the forums:
At the top of the page you will see a menu of choices. Click on “forums.” You are now in the new Forums!
“My Stuff” is where all of your posts and private messages will be easily accessible.
Below ‘My Stuff’ is a list of Discussion topics. Click on any heading to be taken to that area. All discussion headings will then be accessible in the left hand menu.
To post on a specific discussion board click on the board heading and then click ‘New Post’ on the right side of your screen.
Choose a brief title for the first field, a short intro in the second field and then type your main post in the large box.
Once finished, click ‘Create.’ Your post can be edited and a photo can be uploaded at this point. Photos will automatically be resized to fit.
When you are happy with your post you can now choose for it to be displayed. There is a drop-down menu at the top just under the internet address. Click on the box and select 'Active' and then click the “update” button that is just below the message you typed. Your post is now available for everyone to view!

To delete your post, click on the dropdown box and choose ‘delete.'

To reply or comment on a post:
click on the posts heading
click on ‘comment'
enter a brief intro into the appropriate field
if you require more room you can use the optional ‘Main Body’ field
click on ‘comment’ again
Your comment will show up underneath the original post along with other replies and comments.

Please note that only Business Members can start postings in the business section, but all registered users can reply.
Non HCBC members can read all the posts and topics, they may reply with Private messages but they cannot post.

Bumping up threads?

Is there a way to update or 'bump' up an older thread post? Or will you simply have to create a new listing?

If you are worried about abuse, many forums do a 48-hr limit sort of thing. (especially if you make a separate 'bump' option)

My two posts do not appear in the respective forums

Bumping up threads?

The new forums does not have a way to bump up an old thread. The member will just have to start a new thread.

More info on Bumping Threads

There will be an option to Renew (bump) an old post after a period of time by mid-next week. The system will also send email notifications when older posts are about to be deleted and offer the option to Renew it.

where are all the members

the old system had a ton of new posts each day, it doesn't seem like there are any new ones for days. is there something wrong or are people just not posting???

where are all the members

Hi Langley Acres,

When we reviewed the activity we were pleased to find the new forums are just as active as the old forums. There is a lot of private message activity on the forum posts, but it is not visible to everyone. Members are getting a good response to ads.

By design the new forums look cleaner and less over whelming. I think we are all used to seeing a lot more history. When the sun goes away we will see more activity as well.

Advertising farm for sale

Is it permissible to advertise the private sale of a horse property?

Painful.

The search feature does not work. You can't possibly expect someone to sit and scroll through hundreds of listings to find what they are looking for.
