Whipsaw and Granite Road

Access to some good riding country can be had from the Whipsaw Creek Forestry Road. This road circles back to Coalmont, becoming the Granite Road sometime after it passes Paddys Pond. It is only suitable for horse trailers for the first 23 km or so from Hwy 3.

The Hope Pass trail divides into two branches before it meets the road, thus you will see Hope Pass Trail shown in 2 locations on the Google Earth map. One of the branches meets the Whipsaw Granite road at Dicks cabin, the other just a few minutes ride from Corral creek camp. The Dewdney Trail crosses the road at Paddys Pond, and continues to meet another road which branches to the left from the Whipsaw Road at km 18, where there is a sign Granite yet another Granite road to be confused by! Turn on to the Whipsaw Creek Forestry Road approx 10 min west of Princeton on Hwy 3. (Note Paradise Valley Ranch sign) 2 km, turn left ( Whipsaw Creek Forestry Road sign ) 4 km, left past Paradise Valley Guest Ranch 5 km, stay straight on main road 7.7 km, stay on main road 9 km, stay on main road 9.5 km, stay on main road 10 km, stay on main road 12.5 km, stay on main road 12.6 km, stay on main road 14.5 km, stay on main road 15.5 km, stay straight on main road, do not take Garrison Creek road 17 km, stay straight on main road 18 km, stay straight on main road, follow sign to Hope Pass Trail (road narrows) 22 km, stay right, follow sign to Hope Pass Trail You will come to a clearing & cabin with barn. This is Corral Creek camp, about as far as you want to go with a horse trailer. Shortly past this point the road is only suitable for 4x4's. There is a good campsite just the other side of the creek (which you can easily drive through).

currently the portion of the hope pass trail with in ec manning park is closed. The trail is dangerous for horses due to the failing structures on the trail. For updates check on the manning park web site for trail reports.
