Access is off Highway 8 on Spius Creek Forest Service Road. Leaving Merritt B.C. travel west on highway 8 for 17.5 km. Here you will see a road on the left with a bridge over the Nicola River close to the highway. Turn left on this road and set your odometer to zero. At 1 km the road forks, take the left fork signed “Petit Creek Road”. There is another fork at 7.8 km, take the left fork which is the main road. At 23 km you will see a camp area at the left side of the road, then a fork. The right fork is Teepee creek road, take the left fork, just before a bridge at 23.4 km. At the next fork take the Miner Creek road which is the left fork, then cross another bridge at 23.7 km. The next fork in the road is at about 30 km, take the right fork. The road forks again immediately, this time take the left fork and cross a bridge at 33.5 km. There is another fork at 34.3 km, take the right fork. At 35 km is the last fork in the road on this journey. There is a crude sign “parking” and the left fork takes you to the parking area at 36.2 km and within a short walk of Lightning Lake. The other fork is a hard left and takes you to Cabin Lake. After parking, ride back and take this fork on horseback. This is where the ride begins.
