Blackwater Valley Trails

Day Ride Trail
Nested in the picturesque Blackwater river Valley (65 km from Quesnel, BC or 95 km from Prince George, BC) are an abundance of riding trails which offer something for everyone from challenging to super easy. These trails form a network which are easily accessed either from the 11-B or the Blackwater Spruce Road. Trails offer riding times of 1.5 - 2 hours for the shorter trails and 5 hours for the longer trails. This area also offers a huge network of old unused logging roads which are a horse and cart’s dream.

At 1.5 km on the Blackwater Spruce Road, there is a legal easement to your right and left just off the cattle guard. there is water there for your horse to drink. The easement would allow 2 rigs Just past the 2 km mark is a gravel pit with lots of room to park as well(7-8 rigs). the trail network may be access from either the gravel pit or by riding on the Blackwater Spruce Rd to the 11-B road ( 300 meters further)
Contact the Chair of the Cariboo North Chaper of Back Country Horsemen regarding availability of camping.
This area is remote. You maybe lucky to see a bear, whitetail deer, coyote or sandhill cranes. Logging truck traffic may be encountered on the Blackwater Road during weekdays on your travel to this network. There is no cell phone coverage, no motorized vehicles are on the trails. The area is heavily hunted during hunting season and high visibility precautions must be taken, fly season can be heavy. There is a map of the trail area in Avenza to be used on your Smartphone.
Note: Also check under Files Maps Upload/Download tab to see if there are more maps available. If the map below shows red lines, these indicate ridable trails which can be downloaded to your GPS (see Files Maps Upload/Download tab)
From Quesnel travel west across the Fraser River, turn right and head towards Nazko, just past Rockies convenience store turn right onto the Blackwater Road. Travel down the Blackwater Road - pavement transitions to gravel ( 45 km of gravel and you may encounter logging trucks as the area is an active haul road), at the 60 km marker take the next turn to your left ( Blackwater Spruce RD).
