Toad River Hotsprings Park

Provincial Park
Toad River Hot Springs Provincial Park is located along the Toad River within the Muskwa - Kechika Management Area, about 160 km west of Fort Nelson and 25 km east of Muncho Lake Provincial Park. The old guide-outfitter's horse trail down the Racing River to the hotsprings has always been difficult and should not be attempted now that a slide has taken out a section where the good river valley trail rises to cross a mountain-side on the Racing's south side after crossing MacDonald River. Cross the MacDonald and look for the old trail in the timber. Experienced backcountry horsemen can follow the guide-outfitter's route down the Racing River, when it's low enough, to ford in relative safety at least a half dozen times, providing the correct crossings are patiently searched for and found. They're unmarked. The Racing is glacial making visual depth judgements impossible. When we packed in, the guide-outfitter told us we were the first recreational packers he had seen ride to his camp in more than 20 years. Once we found the correct crossings we found the route quite safe and just a two hour ride. Cross the Toad upstream from the Racing about 600 meters at the top of the rapids. After crossing, find the old cat road with its trail. You can ride down the open Toad Valley with its south sloping grassland hills for a number of kilometers. Lots of good grazing. Only the experienced should attempt this difficult Racing River, Toad River Hot Springs Park access trail.
