Babine Mountains Provincial Park permits horses on Harvey Mountain Trail, Silver King Basin Trail, Onion Mountain Road/Trail, Cronin Creek Road/Trail, and Higgins Creek Trail. This park within the Skeena Mountains ecosystem offers some of the best hiking and horse riding opportunities to glacier-fed lakes, rugged peaks and extensive sub-alpine meadows. Horseback riders must have a written letter of permission before heading out on the Lyon Creek Trail. To request permission, contact the local BC Parks regional office in Smithers at least three business days before your trip. Go the the BC Parks web site for more detailed information.

The Joe L'Orsa Cabin is located in the Siver King Basin of the Babine Mountains. Access to the cabin is via the Driftwood Road and the Silver King Trail. It sleeps 15-20 people and is a first come first serve basis. Corrals are provided behind the Joe L'Orsa Cabin. Horses must be kept in the corrals or tied to the hitching post at the tack shed. They should not be tied to trees or free ranged with hobbles.
Go the the BC Parks website for more detailed trail information. https://bcparks.ca/babine-mountains-park/ Cronin Pass Route is a backcountry trail that includes 3 trail segments to form a 26.7 km thru-route. Cronin Creek Trail: 15 km, 1,030 m ascent, 240 m descent. Moderate/Difficult. Check the BC Parks website - Old Cronin Creek and Higgins Creek Trails are no longer maintained. A NEW Cronin Creek Trail was opened in Summer of 2024. This is a wilderness area, so be well prepared before entering the backcountry. Stay on the existing trail and avoid use in wet and muddy conditions to reduce trail damage.

Access to the west end of the park is along the Old Babine Lake Road, which leaves Highway 16 just east of the Bulkley River bridge. Follow the signs to Driftwood Canyon Provincial Park. The parking lot and information map are located 5 km north of Driftwood Canyon. From there, the road is not passable to vehicle traffic. To access the east end of the park, turn left onto Babine Lake Road, 6 km east of Smithers on Highway # 16. The highway turnoff is at 0 km of what becomes the Burnt Cabin Road and then the Babine Lake Road. The Little Joe and Cronin Creek trailheads are found at 32 km and 34.5 km respectively along the route.
