Hunter Basin Trail

Back Country Trail
Hunter Basin is rich in landscape diversity and mining history. It was named after a protector, William Hunter, who arrived in the valley in 1903. The basin can be reached on a well built mining road in under two hours where one enters the basin, rich in vegetative greens and rocky reds, passing by a lovely waterfall. See more info in the Upload/download tab. Hiking, Mountain biking and Horseback riding are permitted July 15 to Sept 30th. NO ACCESS for all from Oct 1 (rutting) to July 14 (calving) No dogs year round and no motorized vehicles year round.

Hunter Basin Trail is an old mining road that leads you easily to timberline. Climbing up to 5000 ft where the left fork crosses Cabinet Creek and goes up a side valley for a km to a mine camp at 5500ft. The right fork enters the basin and climbs up steeply on the north side. The trail circles the headwall up to 6500 ft on the ridge.

From east, in Telkwa, turn east on Hankin Street. Cross River and proceed along Coalmine Road 6 km. Take the left fork, and continue 4 km. Coalmine camp is on the right. Continue 1.5 km to Old Bridge Site.
